Love is an Action Word

by Kristyne McDaniel

There's a lot of hype about finding the right person that leads people to believe that married life is beautiful if only the initial match-up is the correct one. It assumes that love is an ethereal feeling that swoops down on us because of a mystical thing some call chemistry, and that the feelings stay fresh and new if the match-up was done right in the first place.

What a bunch of malarkey.

First of all, you can't get a perfect pairing because we're imperfect beings to begin with, and our information about each other is going to be imperfect. Secondly, we are all going to change over time. Thirdly, Love itself is not primarily a feeling. Love is something we do, not something we feel. It is a commitment; a promise; a choice; an action.

How can you use this kind of information for improving your relationships? What about if you are having a marriage crisis? Well, that's not something we can really accomplish in a few articles. Ultimately, the only real choice is to visit some sort of a professional that can provide personal help. If you like, you can contact Steve and arrange a visit or a telephone call and see where to go from there.
