Help me choose a laptop?
Oowah, I have no experience with these things, but I'd really like to get one soon because my mum hogs the main computer.
It doesn't have to have too much memory on it. Just enough to have MSN and maybe a few other things for I'd only be using it as a substitute until my mum decides to retire from her online bingo buddies and go to bed and mainly for school work as well.
And could someone explain how a laptop receives internet or whatever?
I know I have to get a router or something for it, but how does all that work?

I think a netbook would be a great for you. A netbook is basically a small laptop. It is not expensive, they start at 250 dollars, and go up to around 500. It is great for browsing the internet, social networking, chatting etc. It is small and portable. Something like this would be great for you I think.

Basically you would need a router like this:

Really, all you do is you have this router. You plug it into the wall, and then you plug your internet cable into it. So basically right now you are just feeding your router internet. Then, it broadcasts a wireless signal into the air that carries your internet. This way, you could use the internet without connecting anything to your computer.
So it broadcasts this signal, which your computer would pickup. Then you can connect to the internet.
Some people choose to protect their network, so only people with the password can gain access to your internet.
