Do You Live in Hannah's House of Pain?

Kristyne McDaniel

Steve has been living with moderate to extreme pain since childhood. His first encounter with extreme pain began as a child with acute appendicitis. It continued into adulthood with a ruptured disc in his back and two back surgeries to alleviate intense sciatic nerve pain. Then it followed with joint deterioration from osteoarthritis and finally he's graduated to nerve damage from a botched hernia repair. Living with pain is a fact of life for him. I wish it wasn't.

There are a number of things that Steve has done to ease his pain and improve his life. Some of the methods are pharmacological in nature, such as Celebrex and Tylenol. Others are meditation, chiropractic, and physical therapy. There are surgical solutions that are helpful in some cases. Steve tries to stay away from surgeries until they are absolutely necessary for a number of reasons we'll go into at a later time.

Frequent rest breaks, exercise, keeping active, and paying attention to what your body is telling you when it produces aches and pains are paramount to minimizing the long-term effects of pain on your body. Don't just pop pills. Find out how to make things better.
